SEVEN THINGS YOU SHOULD DO TO HELP PREVENT CANCER ...

Cancer is unfortunately running rampant.? It is the leading cause of death in middle aged to older dogs.? It is seen in dogs as young as a few months old.? Cancer is very difficult to deal with in the tradtional world, and frequently involves invasive/aggressive treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatments in a being that can't understand what we are trying to accomplish.? Treating cancer is easier on the dog if you approach it with alternative treatments in mind, although not easy to cure either way.? Preventing this devastating disease is number one on my list of things to do.? Adopt all seven of the tips below and you will markedly improve your dog's chances of living a cancer-free life.

1.DO NOT over-vaccinate.? Vaccinate as a puppy against distemper and parvoviruses.

Check blood titers for adult dogs to be reassured of their continuous antibody response to these viruses. ?Vaccinate as a puppy against rabies virus, then booster according to legal requirements thereafter.? Strongly consider NOT vaccinating for anything else.

2.Feed healthful foods.? Offer your pet fresh and raw foods as at least 50% of their diet.? Do not use a commercial dog food with artificial preservatives or colorings.? Do not feed your dog chocolate, grapes, raisins, onion, or garlic.

3.Minimize the use of chemicals in your dog's environment.? Both in the house and outdoors, it is important to limit your dog's exposure to chemicals.

4.Minimize the use of chemicals placed into and on your dog.? This includes heartworm preventatives, flea and tick preventatives, and unnecessary medications.? If you are not in a high risk area, consider not using heartworm preventative.

5.Provide access to a source of clean, untreated fresh water daily.? (Most public water sources are treated)

6.Provide exercise and love daily.? Keeping a body and mind healthy are equally important.

7.Offer your dog broccoli or broccoli seed in capsules (called sulforaphane glucosinolate) at least 2-3 times per week.? Broccoli has awesome anti-cancer potential.
