Christine O'Donnell Killed the Mitt Romney Campaign (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | It's getting down to the wire in the GOP primaries to determine the Republican candidate to face off with President Barack Obama. And although there's no official word yet, Mitt Romney is all but done now too, thanks to an endorsement by Christine O'Donnell, as reported on the Los Angeles Times today.

Readers might remember Christine O'Donnell for her scary "I'm you" campaign slogan. But others among us also remember her penchant for trying too hard to fit in on Bill Maher's show in 1990 -- a clip that came back to haunt her during her run for Senate in 2010. With Christine O'Donnell endorsing Mitt Romney, American can hear the hammering of the last few coffin nails in his campaign.

One big problem he faces is the Great American rumor mill. It's been alleged that he's been using a campaign slogan of "Keep America American." While Mediate defends him against the allegations, we all know how people gossip anyway, once emotions get involved.

Another point which contributes to his demise as the GOP candidate, is perhaps he's not extreme enough for the mostly religious conservative voting base, to get the chance in the first place. In a report from MSNBC, he appeals to the general electorate easily, but it's the primary voters he's struggling to win over. Some folks just see no value in trying to be reasonable on certain topics like taxes or religion.

Herman Cain's already gone. Rick Perry has unofficially shot himself in the foot with "Stronger," even if he doesn't realize it fully yet. Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann, well, they're Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann...enough said. Jon Huntsman is somewhat interesting, but his marketing team seems to have done an all-too-weak job of getting his name out there. Ron Paul could make a difference in America's future, but that may actually be the very reason the establishment won't let him be the candidate. What a shame to see my country denied the chance to have a non-psychopath in the office.

I'm afraid this election cycle, it may very well come down to President Barack Obama against Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. And with Newt's love of power, the Republicans might see more votes for an Obama re-election than anyone anticipated. I could be wrong about who the nominee will be, but it is not Mitt Romney. Thank you Christine O'Donnell.
